Summer 2019 – Lots of Interesting Titles

Spring 2019 wasn’t really for me, so maybe Summer 2019 will be better?

I ended up dropping Ao-chan Can’t Study, and I’m quite a few episodes behind on Demon Slayer, so I guess it can’t get too much worse than that.

Unlike last season, there are actually some shows that I’m pretty excited about. So let’s talk about them!

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon II

Adventurer Bell and Goddess Hestia – Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon

As soon as I found out that this was coming out this season, I rewatched all of the episodes that were already out. I really like this series, and I’m so glad that it got another season. I even watched the Sword Oratoria spinoff that follows Ais Wallenstein; it was good.

After just a few episodes in, I’m siked with where the series is going. It’s crazy to think just how far Bell has come! I can’t wait for him and his friends to kick the shit out of the Apollo guys. At least, I hope that’s how it goes down.

My one hope for this season is we get a fight scene equal to or better than that of the Minotaur fight. That fight in the first season was amazing.

Teasing Master Takagi-san II

Takagi and Nishikata sharing a watermelon

It may not be getting a whole lot of attention this season, but I thought the first season of this show was completely adorable, so I’m all in for this one.

I’m curious to see what direction the show takes. Honestly, I know nothing about this new season. Is it directly after the first? Is there a time skip? Who knows! I guess I’ll find out. I just hope it’s as adorable as the first season.

Fire Force

Fire Force – Main Characters

I remember seeing the trailer for this one, and it caught my eye. My wife and I sat down and watched a couple of episodes. I can’t say that we were blown away, but we didn’t hate it. It’s an interesting enough plot, with the whole special fire fighters basically fighting demons and what not.

We got two young characters that despise each other to make a classic rivalry, and they both think they are hot shit before getting destroyed by one of the senior members on the force. I’m curious as to how the story is going to unfold, and if they are going to make progress on the whole people bursting into flame demons deal.

Dr. Stone

I’m not going to lie, I haven’t even started this one yet. However, it’s a show that certainly caught my attention before the season started. The premise certainly seems interesting, but I can’t really comment on it seeing as I haven’t watched any of it.

Hopefully it turns out to be as interesting as it seems.

Vinland Saga

Vinland Saga – Thorfinn

This is another one I haven’t watched a single episode of, but peaked my interest as I’ve seen more and more people talking about it. Just skimming through the description, it seems to be right up my alley. England, vikings, wars; I’m in.

It seems like every week this one gains more and more hype, so I’m hopeful.

Uh…Why so many Isekai?

This is just a random note, so feel free to skip.

I’m used to there being a seasonal isekai that I generally will start but end up dropping because it doesn’t do anything unique. Maybe the problem is the genre is so saturated that it’s nearly impossible to do anything unique. Either way, if it’s not an addition to an already established show, then I’m probably not going for it.

I’m surprised this season that there are at least three isekai. Of course, all of them are being rated moderately.

We have Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki desu ka?, which is a mouthful, and seems to be focusing on the “cuteness” factor of the mother.

There’s Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest which seems to be trying to piggyback off of Shield Hero’s “zero to hero” hype.

Finally, there’s Isekai Cheat Magician which doesn’t seem to have any unique traits as both characters are blatantly overpowered.

I guess I just don’t get why this genre continues to get pumped out with moderate feedback. If it’s a sequel, I’m in, but new isekai stories just don’t seem to interest me as much anymore.

Let’s Go

There are a few more, other than the ones above, that seem interesting this season. I’m sure I’ll put quite a few of them in my plan to watch list and get to them eventually. Regardless, I already like this season a lot better than the last.

Of course, that’s probably because there are two sequel seasons that I can actually enjoy.

Some that peaked my interest:

  • Astra Lost in Space
  • O Maidens in Your Savage Season
  • If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord

Time to go watch some anime!

Thanks for reading.
